Chiefs have won the AOC CyberGamer Premier League Championship 2017 title over Tainted Minds in the grand final 3-1. The $15,000 AUD (~$11,470) double-elimination event kicked off this weekend in Adelaide, Australia with six teams from the Oceanic region in attendance. The majority of the teams including Chiefs, Tainted Minds and Athletico had their debut with the newly announced rosters during the past week. The underdogs Ground Zero turned out to be a surprise after catching Athletico and Legacy OCE off guard in their three-map encounters, giving the two teams a run for their money. The other least-experienced team Masterminds was eliminated early, following 2-0 losses to Athletico and Legacy OCE too. Meanwhile, the two favourites Chiefs and Tainted Minds cruised past Legacy OCE and Athletico in their respective semi-final match-ups, with Tyler "tucks" Reilly's squad outlasting Yaman "yam" Ergenekon's men in the upper bracket final. Athletico's new recruit Nikhil "NikkeZ" Victor topped the scoreboard in the lower bracket final against the Legacy OCE side, knocking out Kyran "dizzyLife" Crombie's crew in fourth place. However, Athletico met the end of their road with Tainted Minds blocking their paths once again with another 2-0 defeat. Chiefs had a 1-0 advantage heading into the best-of-five grand final, but that did not stop their former teammate Joshua "INS" Potter's side crushing them on the second map (16-1 de_train) to tie up the series 1-all. The tournament MVP Matthew "Texta" O'Rourke went on to win his first domestic offline event after Chiefs reset themselves to claim the next two maps for a 3-1 series their way.
